About the opportunity
Skill Konnect is supporting a major Federal Government program undergoing significant uplift in cyber governance and system assurance. We are seeking an experienced Cyber Security Governance & Compliance Specialist to guide risk assessment activities, support accreditation workflows, and ensure government systems meet required security standards. You’ll be working in a high-visibility environment where cyber risk, system assurance, and secure design are core priorities. The work involves partnering with system owners, technical teams, and senior stakeholders to ensure new and existing platforms are assessed and documented correctly. This is a Canberra-based position with hybrid work arrangements. Remote candidates may be considered depending on project needs, working full-time hours Monday to Friday. The initial engagement is a 12-month contract with potential extensions.
What you'll be doing
- Lead the development of security documentation required for accreditation, including risk plans, security plans, applicability statements and assessment reports.
- Coordinate multiple security assessments at once and track them through their full lifecycle.
- Translate security requirements and control expectations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Provide clear, practical advice on security controls, risks and remediation pathways.
- Work with cyber teams to resolve issues, close findings and uplift compliance across systems.
- Support uplift of governance processes and contribute to a stronger security culture across the program.
What we're looking for
- 5+ years’ experience in cyber security governance, risk, compliance or accreditation roles.
- Strong understanding of Australian Government security requirements and control frameworks.
- Experience working with large ICT environments (Microsoft-centric experience highly regarded).
- Ability to manage multiple parallel assessments without losing accuracy or attention to detail.
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, high-quality security documentation.
- Australian Citizenship, with the ability to obtain at least Baseline clearance (higher-level clearances welcomed).
